About
Bio
Born in Belleville, Ontario in 1961. From a young age Robert always demonstrated his creative skills through painting and drawing. Robert studied graphic design at Durham College and after graduating he moved to Toronto. His design career was largely focused on producing promotional material for the pharmaceutical industry as well as working for a Toronto advertising agency.
After many successful years in the advertising world Robert left the industry in 2010 to pursue his passion for painting and set up his studio in Aurora, Ontario. Inspired by the Canadian Landscape’s shapes and colours, he simplifies his impressionistic style paintings through the use of broad brush strokes, vibrant colours, square and rectangular shapes. These shapes add a sense of abstraction and convey a kind of whimsical feel to the painting.
Many of his paintings are in public collections throughout Canada, United States and Europe.
Statement
My paintings, depicting primarily Canadian landscapes are based on photographs taken on my travels. Inspired by nature’s shapes and colours, I simplify my impressionistic style paintings through the use of square and rectangular shapes. These shapes add a sense of abstraction and convey a kind of whimsical feel to my work.. This abstract component combined with the realism element allow me the freedom to create without getting overly detailed with the image. In addition, my broad brush strokes, and vibrant colours are instrumental in creating imagery in its most simplistic form.
